our story
Misiaszek Turpin pllc was established in 2004, but architecture has been in the hearts of owners Sonya Misiaszek and Rob Turpin since childhood.
Growing up in a family that made everything from growing their own vegetables to woodworking to baking/building 3-dimensional birthday cakes, it’s no surprise that Sonya’s mind was all about the creative. Just ask the basement walls of her parents’ home. To this day, they tell the story of a girl destined to be an architect with concrete walls covered in drawings of houses by Sonya who, at the time, didn’t even know what architecture was.
Rob also had a passion for the creative, working with his hands and creating structures. As a child, Rob spent a lot of time playing with his friend Ted at “Dirt City,” a Tonka truck town created in Ted’s backyard; they created sports fields, courts, and model train layouts, complete with landscape features and villages. One of Rob’s earliest architectural influences was the building on the University of Arkansas campus where his father (a professor of fine arts) had an office and small studio. This building was designed by world-renowned architect Edward Durrell Stone, and was the first university building in the U.S. that brought together the allied arts under one roof.
Years later, fate would bring Sonya and Rob together working as architects at the same firm. It was there, chatting about their professional goals, they discovered they wanted the same thing…
To create a studio-style firm that would encourage brainstorming and collaboration among its architects and clients with an open, inviting, and fun environment where everyone would feel part of the team. Today, that vision is a reality with Misiaszek Turpin.
